Job Description

This restaurant, located in Vienna--the City of Music--has acquired a Michelin star.
This fall, the Japanese owner, who is also an artist, will be opening a Japanese culinary school in relation to his restaurant.

Currently, they are hoping to hire a 【chef turned teacher】who can teach the basics of Japanese cooking in English

For example, the students may be chefs from Michelin level restaurants who are hoping to learn the proper way to clean fish. It will also be a part of your duties to teach the western chefs who work at the owner’s restaurant as well.

The courses will proceed with the needs of the students, so the lesson plans and coursework is to be determined after you are hired as the teacher.

Requirements & Notes

The Japanese owner wishes to open this Japanese culinary school in order to help introduce and share Japanese cuisine and culture overseas.

Just like French or Chinese cuisine, we want you to teach with the hopes of introducing Japanese cuisine to new people, and even if it has a foreign twist, we want Japanese cuisine to be better known across the globe.
We would like to hire a teacher who is excited about this mission statement.

We at Washokujob were able to speak with the owner when he returned to Japan recently. He truly believes Japanese culture and cuisine must be shared with the world, and that we cannot try to keep it trapped or within our own bubble.

His business holds this mission, and now he hopes to create a school with you that will also achieve the same goals.

If you share this passion and wish to put your skills to the test, please apply within ☆

Requirements

Would it make you happy to teach foreign chefs the proper way to make sushi? Or how to create authentic broth used in Washoku cuisine? Experience: 10 or more years experience in Japanese cuisine Education: high school or greater Language: English (daily conversational level) We are looking for someone who possesses great knowledge of Japanese culinary terms and procedures in English, but since you will be teaching, business level English, etc. is not expected. Because even if you do not know the English work “flour,” you should be able to tell what it is by looking at it (from the owner). More importantly, we are looking for someone who is open to being a teacher and a guide to our western chefs who wish to learn more about Japanese culinary preparations. We are looking for someone who can teach the basics of Japanese cooking and Washoku culture/tradition. We are looking for someone who believes in “teaching the proper traditions of Japanese cuisine, so that even if the food is arranged or altered in a Western-style, it is still Washoku at its heart.”
